Shift Up Responds to Fan Criticism Over AI-Generated Stellar Blade: Blood Rain Trailer

Shift Up has officially acknowledged the negative reception to the AI-generated music video for Stellar Blade: Blood Rain. The studio's technical director, DongKi Lee, stated that they take fan concerns seriously and plan to better distinguish between official game content and experimental projects in the future.

The music video, released last month, was intended to showcase Stellar Blade: Blood Rain and introduce a new character named Evie. However, it quickly drew criticism from players who noticed inconsistencies in the character's face, unnatural environments, choppy animation, and overall odd visual execution.

Developer Response and Future Plans

During Gamescom, journalists spoke with DongKi Lee, who also serves as CTO of Shift Up, and directly asked about the company's reaction to the backlash. Lee explained that the video was originally created solely to provide more details about the world of Blood Rain and the new heroine. He acknowledged that the result raised questions among the audience.

“We take seriously what fans say and their concerns about this music video,” Lee said. He added that following this incident, the studio aims to clearly separate regular materials tied directly to the game from experimental content produced as part of various technological tests.

Lee also shared Shift Up's broader view on AI in game development. He believes the technology itself is not the problem; rather, it's how and for what purposes it is used. “AI has a big impact on game development. But when using certain technologies and tools, direction and purpose are important. They should support the creativity, knowledge, and skills of developers,” he explained.
